Akane (あかね) is a minor supporting character that appears only in Cardcaptor Sakura's anime adaptation.

Appearance

Akane is a young girl with brown eyes, and short reddish hair that she wears in pigtails.

Her attire consists of a pink jumpsuit and white t-shirt underneath, the latter of which has grey trimming. She also wears a pair of white and grey socks.

Personality

Akane is an optimistic and happy young girl despite her father having passed away a year prior. She’s very caring and motherly, as shown when she took in Kero. Akane is also something of a prodigy as she can handle chores and housework very well for a child her age, mainly due to her mother working long hours to support them both.

Plot

Akane takes in Kero, who had just had a big fight with Sakura, and names him "Chau." During the time Kero spends at Akane's house, the Float Card nearly sends Akane plummeting to her death before Sakura successfully seals it away, breaking Akane's fall with the Wood.

As Akane and her mother are moving to a place that doesn't allow pets, Akane gives "Chau" to Sakura, telling her to take good care of him, to which Sakura happily agrees.

Etymology

• Written as 茜, Akane means "Rubia madder," a plant used to make red dye.
